Apple Turnovers

So I’m on Slimming world and anything pastry based is just utterly bad however there is a way of getting around that. This is NOT my idea (I have adapted it to make it a sweet version of a savoury recipe: check out Pinch of Nom) but it’s something worth sharing with people who may have a sweet tooth simply because they are super easy.

See the casing? That’s made from a wrap. Specifically the wraps you get in a fajita kit (we made salad with the fajita mix). Absolutely no pastry and if you get the correct wraps (Weight Watchers Wraps) they’re very low syn.

These are apple turnovers that can be easily made even when there is nothing in the house. All you need is:

  • 3 apples (depending on people more or less)
  • White wraps
  • 2tsp cinnamon or mixed spice
  • 2tbsp water
  • 1 egg
  • Sugar (or cinnamon sugar)

I also made caramel to add to the apples and drizzle over the top. Find that recipe here.

1- Chop the apples in the small chunks and put in a pan with the cinnamon and water.

2 – Allow to stew on a med-low heat until it becomes mushy.

3 – While the apple stew make the caramel.

3 – Lay out the wraps (this mixture made 5 turnovers) and spoon some of the apple mixture onto one half of the wrap leaving space between the edge of the wrap and the mixture. Pour some of the caramel over the apple mix.

4 – Beat the egg and brush the inside edges, then fold the wrap over and crimp the edges together with a folk.

5 – Brush the top with the egg wash and then sprinkle with sugar. Repeat until the tray is full.

6 – Bake for 10 minutes and then flip over and brush the underside with the egg wash and bake again for 5 – 10 minutes until the wrap is golden brown.

7 – Drizzle caramel over the turnover.

I have a bit of a fussy boyfriend but if it get his approval, then I know they’re worth making. They’re a great dessert and you can even impress your friends with them!
